Miles of smiles
If you found the last five kilometers interesting, then you are going to love the ten. Yet another event in the campaign Let’s run for a child smile is behind us, and we are slowly coming to the end of this year’s campaign.
Friday's fifteenth was reserved for the race Sarajevski Cener, in which our assiduous runners and sympathizers of running, ran for 10 kilometersthrough the city of Sarajevo. They started from Vijecnica, and ran through Marijin Dvor and Marshal Tito Street, and an after-party was organized after the race by its organizer NGO Marathon. The gathering and warm-up of participants were held on the plateau across Vijecnica, and it started at 20 o’clock.
We can proudly say that 18 runners ran for the team of the Foundation. Eighteen runners managed, with their selfless engagement in running and selling kilometers, to collect funds and thus bring a special note of happiness into the lives of the children of the Older brother, older sister program.
Eldin Omeragic is one of our dear friends and the runner to whom this represents the third run in a row for the Foundation, and he gladly shared his experience:
“For five years now I have been running in Kakanj together with the Kilometer of life crew, where we sell kilometers and help in the education of socially vulnerable young ones in our town, so you could say that this Foundation’s action has just inertly continued my work from previous years. The inspiration for running comes from within, but it makes it even more special and stronger when you know that your running is socially beneficial, especially when the young are involved. I can proudly say that I ran for the Foundation this year as well. I would like to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Foundation for putting their trust in me, and to highlight what an immense honor and satisfaction it was to be their representative for these races. I would also like to use this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in this action and who bought my kilometers.”
The fact that those who are directly involved in the Older brother, older sister program participated in the race, namely the coordinator of the program from the Foundation Muharem Berbic – Emin Alic, brings us special honor and joy. “Participation in the campaign of accumulating funds for the OBOS Foundation is the mixture of my life’s two great loves, and those are healthy life habits and children. Healthy life habits don’t make us just healthy, but they teach us to work, to be orderly and disciplined, and they develop many healthy personal traits. Because of my profession, children were always an inevitable part of my life. Knowing that all the funds accumulated are meant for direct or indirect help for the children who are part of the OBOS program, I always gladly answer the call for such activities. The whole OBOS team is so highly-spirited and full of positive energy that every encounter results in good times. Sarajevski cener is now already a traditional race I enjoyed. Of course, every race is one type of individual challenge, but I have learned through life that challenges make us stronger. I am impatiently waiting for the next challenge, and I wish all the best to the OBOS team in their endeavors.”
We want to say thank you to all the racers as well as to everyone who participated in this year’s campaign Let’s run for a child’s smile by buying kilometers.
